Sometimes we’re lucky enough to get that second chance – in life and in love. That Second Chance Series are stand-alone stories of strong women who battle heartache and loss with a courage and determination to find new paths and true love. What ties them together? A common theme belief in the beauty of that second chance.

The Butterfly Garden is Book Six of That Second Chance Series.

Sometimes love happens when you least expect it…

Jenny Romano has never been a white-picket-fence, happily-ever-after girl. Despite a mother who rejected her free-spirited, unique ways as irresponsible and just plain wrong, Jenny has found happiness as a photographer, flitting around the country and snapping photos of other people’s lives. Her older sister, Grace, has a husband, children, and a carpool schedule. She’s the one their mother calls “perfect.”

But when tragedy strikes her sister’s carefully constructed life, Jenny must step in and help. Soon, she’s knee-deep in small-town, suburban life, the kind she’s always avoided…

Psychologist Elliot Drake spends so much time healing other people’s pain that he prefers to keep his own relationships short and uncomplicated. He’s loved and lost once and with a young daughter to raise, he’s not willing to risk his heart again. Of course, he’s never met anyone quite like Jenny. Outrageous and unpredictable, she’s nothing like her well-controlled older sister. And the more he’s around Jenny, the more he wonders if short-term is really what he wants…

Elliot and Jenny are about to discover that real life happens whether you want it to or not. Will they let real love happen, too?

The Butterfly Garden That Second Chance Book 6 edition by Mary Campisi Literature Fiction eBooks

The theme and characters of this book are trite and stereotypical: perfect sister, free-spirited sister, overbearing mother, cheating husband, calm psychologist, etc. but the worst is the juvenile writing. It came across as the amateurish work of an eighth grade girl who dreams about love but does not have the maturity to understand its facets and depth. Phrases such as the dead husband being buried "stiff as a board," or "that's how he met his demise" were torturous to read. The most embarrassing scene was when the "other woman" inexplicably showed up, making shrill demands, and then disappeared as quickly as she had arrived. But then again, a gratuitous sex scene in a car in a public place was also awkward and embarrassingly juvenile as well. Then there is the issue of an emotionally and verbally abusive 30-year relationship between mother and daughter that is resolved with one brief conversation and a hug; a veritable miracle! I kept asking myself who would publish this quality writing? Save your $.99!

The Butterfly Garden That Second Chance Book 6 edition by Mary Campisi Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Disappointing read from a fairly prolific author of family tragedy and recovery type book. Too formula, predictable, one dimensional characters plus so many truly annoying devices. For example, someone with basic healthy eating habits is portrayed as stodgy and boring. In another scene the protagonist makes a huge statement about the morality of eating veal an on literally the next page is checking her tons of leather outfits in preparation fo a date with the man she gave an earful to about the veal, DUH! Basic storyline ok but very disappointing in many aspects.
This is a standalone book with no cliffhanger. It is one terrific read. It starts off sad and the characters are having a really hard time. Especially the free-spirited, fly by the seat of the pants sister. It turns into one of the best reads I have had for weeks. I read or attempt to read about 5-7 books a week and lately I have had a really dry spell. At first I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get through the first part of the story. it sets up everything that follows. It is so close to real life that it is scary. Of course, we all know someone that has been just like these characters.

Sisters growing up in the same household with the same parents but two totally different souls. Even treated differently by the same parents. there are so many lessons in this story. One being that we have no idea what our parents are really thinking, we perceive them to be one way when we have no idea what motivates their actions. However, one is the beloved daughter and the other is treated like she can never be good enough no matter what she does or how successful she may be. The mother in this story is a total witch and it is hard to understand how she could treat her own daughter as she did however, we know it was for "her own good". I have had friends with mothers just like this one. They just have no idea how they have changed their child from being who they were really meant to be.

The perfect daughter is seriously injured in a car wreck, her husband is killed, she leaves two young children in the care of the less favored daughter. She is so unsure of herself anyway and then the mother cuts her down at ever turn telling her she will never care for the children as they should be cared for. Since she and the mother clash at every turn it is no wonder that she does not look forward to the mother showing up and taking over.

She adjust and the kids do just fine as kids usually do. The sister has a very slow recovery and it is taking every ounce of her being to do what needs to be done as her sister stays in her coma. This is such a good story, I found it very entertaining and I definitely recommend it. There are a lot of secondary characters that really add to the story. Of course, the hero of this story is Dr. Drake!! A lovely man and a terrific hero. He has his own share of issues that he works through as well. This is not a traditional romance novel. It is more of a story with a bit of romance in it. It is a great read and one you will not want to miss. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say one thing -- I don't think I could have forgiven the mother as quickly as she did but then I tend to hold a grudge!! With her archaic beliefs, she would not change too easily. But, HEA for everyone.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
This story of two sisters who are both dealing with life-changing events. I just didn't feel as if the plot details were well developed. I liked Jennie, her courage and determination and her loyalty to those she loved. I did, however, feel that too many events were contrived, especially the ending.
Can you step up? Jenny can't believe that she is going to Italy to photograph the Pope she is hoping that this will be her big break but tragedy happens and she needs to go back home. Her sister Grace has been in a serious car accident and she is in a coma and her husband Grant is dead. Jenny will need to look after the two girls until her mother can come and help. Jenny has no ideas at all about children, she has never wanted any and she is a big junk food girl. How is she going to look after them and try get Grace through this awful time. The future is looking uncertain for them all. The girls are upset and depressed so Jenny takes them to see a psychologist but Elliott Drake isn't a typical one. He is good looking, has a young daughter and single. But Jenny has so many things to worry about right now. She needs to bring Grace home and try get them all settled before their mother arrives as Jenny needs to leave soon anyways. But everything is about to go belly up. Grace remembers that her husband was cheating on her and that she has tried for so long to be the perfect everything and she is lost and doesn't know how she is going to move on. Jenny & Elliott start seeing each other but Jenny knows that it can't lost this isn't her home anymore but can she just leave it all behind now? Can the two families get to be happy again? A good read.
I have come to enjoy reading series books. Each of The Second Chance books stand alone and all have very good stories. But reading them in series really gave me a sense of completion. I especially liked the last two books which Mary Campisi's wrote other main ( lack of a better word) characters into the story. Not just your usual couple.
Easy read that will make you laugh, cry, and be happy with happy endings.
