Unspoken Kira Von Wolfe 9781514210765 Books Reviews

I was given a copy of Kira's book by my Mom as a gift, I'm so glad too!! This book is a quick read & I really enjoyed this collection of short stories & poems! I think that my favorite short story was 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark', it brought back memories of being scared as a kid & the fears it invokes! I also really enjoyed Chernobyl, great ghost story! My favorite poem in the collection was 'Winter', I could close my eyes after reading it & picture winter in Pennsylvania! I really enjoyed the poetry, which seemed to me, to be written from the heart...I reread many of them after finishing the book & am still thinking about them.
Kira Von Wolfe draws you in with an array of short stories and poems that take you right into your deepest darkest passions, fears, and feelings. I was on the edge of my seat, particularly through her short stories called "Chernobyl," "Asylum," and "The Silken Gift" (which will leave you feeling like your skin is crawling as you're reading it). My favorite of the poems would have to be the one titled "She," along with one of her untitled poems, I felt as if they were describing the exact feeling I felt in my darkest times. If you have ever had a dark time in your life, after reading this anthology, you will know you're not alone.
I received the book as a gift.

This is a collection of short stories and poetry mainly with a horror lean. I know next to nothing about poetry, so I can't speak to the technical acumen, but I can say that I enjoyed reading them (for what it's worth, 'Colors' and 'Beds are Burning' are my two favorite poems included in the anthology). As such, this review will focus mainly on the short stories; but don't worry, there won't be any spoilers.

I enjoyed reading through all of them, but my two favorite by far are "The Silken Gift" and "Chernobyl". The Silken Gift is a modern horror story written in a unique voice whose descriptions managed to make me ill. Kira's ability to make what the character is going through resonate with you is one of the most impressive aspects of her writing and it's in full display in this tale. I can easily see her vivid and colorful descriptions being able to carry even the most blasé of plots. The other stand-out in this anthology is 'Chernobyl', of which I cannot say much about for fear of spoiling any of it. In this story, Kira shows her ability to guide the reader and have you question things without the need for a character to say it.

However, as with every anthology, something usually falls short. The honor in this collection must go to 'Asylum'. The beginning starts off strongly, almost a satire of how poorly we have treated the mentally bereft in the United States. It slowly goes down hill from there however, turning into a very standard, cliché horror plot. However, even a by-the-numbers plot cannot stop Kira's engaging and intelligent descriptions of everything. From the atmosphere to the visceral feeling of a blade interacting with flesh, it's all written wonderfully.

Overall, this is a fantastic anthology that I think truly highlights Kira Von Wolfe's strengths. While, again, I don't know much about poetry nor do I read much of it, they were quite good and actually got me to read them. A feat in and of itself, honestly. The short stories I feel are where the book absolutely shines though. Kira's engaging, poetic descriptions are what drive the turn of the page for me personally. And, at the end of the day, what more could you ask for from a book than for it to encourage you to drive forward, uncovering its next enthralling passage or beautifully worded piece?
This is my first time reading a book of poems and shorts stories. Author Kira gave me an advance Beta copy to read and I am happy to say each poem will have you wanting to read more. She had a way of drawing you into the raw emotions she was feeling with each poem. As for her short stories they were simply amazing. The one that sticks out the most and will grab you in will have to be the one titled "Chernobyl." While reading this I could have sworn I was there within the story. Kira gives an amazing background about each poem and short story before you start reading anything. "Asylum" is another good one and please listen to the warning she gives about this one.
There are tons more I could talk about, but I don't was to spoil anything you my giving to much away.
If you want something exciting and different to read checkout Unspoken by Author Kira Von Wolfe.
I don't know what to say, I'm at all with how Kira put this together, I didn't really think it would hit home as much as it has, She done a really good job and I would recommend this book to anyone whom is and has had to deal with heart ache. Great jod Kira
